Why do we (humans) think we are above all other life?

because we are manifestly more intellignet than the rest. Unfortaunatley not intelligent enough to see that many of our actions are destroying our home and other species, like a bird systematically setting fire to its own cage

First off, I would have to say that our attitude towards other forms of life has everything to do with the fact that we think. Where would we be without all of our fancy words, with their fancy meanings, anyway? We would be just like the rest of the, what we call, animals. The rest of the animals do not use our words, so they are not capable of placing their selves above others. We humans, though, have language and meaning, and we use this superb tool like a monkey uses a hammer; and nothing gets built that does not get destroyed. We can use our words to say we are better than they are. Worse than that though is that we actually believe the drivel that issues forth from our mouths and minds.

Because we are, this is the second time this has come up. We, are a thinking, tool using, loving, and advancing race (humans) we're able to plan, execute and make plans for the future.
All other mammals eat when they're hungry, have sex for reproduction, have no facial expressions, don't use or have the experience to use tools and, do not advance.
