I bought a new laptop from DELL this time last year. It's top of the range 1024 RAM, Centrino Duo Processor etc. Basically it's giving me trouble lately :(. At first the battery broke, it now has to be plugged in at all times. The wireless on my network card no longer works.

My latest problem is the monitor. It flickers black every 2 seconds for about 3 seconds and i cannot use it. The laptop cost me 1500 and is now no longer usable. Is there anything I can do to fix the monitor. My old Dell laptop lasted for 3 yrs and this desktop is only 6 months old but is perfect!

Please help!

Sounds like the FL interter board is going out. This is a board that converts your low voltage DC to high voltage AC. Although this is something you can replace, if you're not confident in your computer skills I would have a professional test it. One way to find out if it IS your LCD, instead of your computer, is to hook an external monitor up and see if the problem persists. If it does, your video card or other hardware may be going bad. If the problem doesn't exist on the external monitor, your LCD is going bad, most likely the FL inverter board, possibly the bulb or video cable. The fix for the board shouldn't be more than around $150. One other thing, sounds like the laptop is still under Dell's warranty? You better call Dell before you do anything that voids the warranty. Hope some of this helps.

P.S. Once you hook up the external monitor press and hold the Fn key, then press F8. This should turn on dual display. Press again when done to get your LCD screen back.

That's the same problem my dad had with his Dell laptop. Just send your laptop to Dell and they'll see what's wrong--that's what we did. It's working fine now.
