My AC has water in it(I can hear it being slushed around when I turn it on). Is it safe to leave it on with water in it? It's really hot here, but I don't want to risk any hazard.

Sure, remember it sits in its own water when it's cooling.

Condensation constantly puts water in an a/c...Nowthere should be a white plastic plug on the outside underneath of the ac from the factory..some people fail to pull these out..after awhile, if condensation outruns the evaporation it can fill up and the fan inside will get into the water and make noises and spit small drops of water out...Alot these things will stop up the hole to drain underneath and need a little cleaning..any wire can unplug this hole..personally, every spring I take mine out and take the cover off from the unit..just take it in the yard..on plywood or something of course...i spray a degreaser on the front coils and use a small brush and scrub..then i spray inside the unit..and take a simple water hose out and spray it all over cleaning it out..no this does not harm the ac..just leave it apart and let it dry a couple days before using

I would assume if the inside of your house didn't get wet, where all the electrical stuff is, you should be fine. There have been many rain storms here and our ac is left hanging out the window and we have run it and its worked fine. If anything, pull the ac unit out of the window, tilt it backwards to drain the water out and you should be fine. Also if you are really concerned, a day in the sun should help out, and if its warm, the water will eventually evaporate. Just think, the back of the ac unit normally drips water from it when the ac coils condense.

you have to remember that most Air conditioners work by Dehumidification, so the water has to go somewhere. I havea portable unit and I have to empty the container daily in warm weather, it takes about 2 litres out of the air. Could that be the sloshing you hear>

I am a little surprised there is water still sitting in the unit. A/C units are designed to drain rain water and condensate water from the machine.
If the water is not draining away you should investigate and clear the blockage, then you will find this situation will not repeat itself.
I don't believe you are in any danger, just clear the blockage.

yeah some newer units dont drain much water.. if its slushing it sounds like there might be too much in there.. look and see if it has a drain hole in back bottom.. some slime might be blocking it... some sit in their own water as a dust/bug catcher.. like the old VWs did in the aircleaner with oil in bottom
