Happened to me last summer with a GE 8,000 BTU. It was the compressor.They said it would cost $150 - up and I had paid $139. So, look for a sale and don't get suckered by a repaiman.

Look in the yellow pages in the phone book ask what their cost are per hour.

look in your yellow pages,and get a lot of estimates,from different company's,make sure that they are certified,and compare prices,there could be a couple of things wrong with it.
