Most people are afraid of what they don't know about. It's a pretty natural reaction. All that most of us know for sure is that whatever happens after death, it doesn't seem to involve hanging around in the places we're all familiar with. (I haven't seen too many dead people around at least!)
If you don't want to be afraid any more, you have to face death. Learn about it. Spend time with someone who is dying (they'll probably appreciate it too!). If you can, see an autopsy. Spend time in a graveyard. It may sound morbid, but I think you'll come to realize that there are lots of ways to die and the process itself isn't necessarily a horrible one.
Then you can learn to face the unknown. This will serve you well for your whole life. Play a game your friends play without learning the rules first. Visit a country where you don't speak the language. Spend a day blindfolded. You'll find that you have capabilities you never even dreamed of, and you'll see so many new worlds you may start be amazed at how you could have missed them all along.
Then, perhaps, death will not be a horrible onus, but just something different. A challenge to overcome. A new mode of being, but one you can face knowing how truly wonderful you are.

Try a different perspective...
Are you afraid of what you were before you were born? Does that scare you? Probably not, so imagine it is the same until you feel ready to confront the fear head on.
This helped me calm down when I had thoughts as you do, as everyone does.
It is this fear alone which drives people to find higher meaning, whatever that may be.
I first had the thoughts at 5, I'm 42 know and have found peace with it. The only thing I fear is the loss or sorrow my death may have on the ones I love.
Don't dwell on dying, it will come eventually. Dwell on life.

Imagination, scary. Why bother about what will be someday. Yes, our lives are finite but between birth and death, we should live to our each, a full life. Life is energy, it goes from form to form. Quantum physics and Theology agree on this. Energy and God are the forums used. Look at it this way, life is a banquet, grab a big spoon and dig in. Let that fast heart beat dance and not cry. Life is to enjoy. OK, 1,2,3, get going. Blessings on you.

Death can be pretty scary when you think about it. I lost my dad recently to cancer. I've lost relatives before, but this was the first time I lost someone in my immediate family. Losing someone that close, is like finding out you're being stalked by the Grim Reaper. The death of a close one is much more personal.
I'm an atheist, so I don't believe in any kind of afterlife. Death is the end of one's existence. If there was a god and an afterlife, why would god have made us to be so afraid of dying and death? And why is it that the only people who AREN'T afraid of dying, tend to be bad people like kamikaze pilots or suicide bombers (or others who would kill themselves in order to kill others)?
Rather than dwelling on death though, I prefer to dwell on living. Having no afterlife means this life is all we have, so it's up to each of us to make the most of it. Life is to be valued and cherished. Living in fear of death is just wasting your life, and in that sense decreasing the total amount of your time that you spend really LIVING your life.
There is so much beauty, fun, and joy in life that is there for the taking, all we have to do is look around us and choose to find it. If, however, you still find yourself dwelling on your fear of death, then take heart in the knowledge that 1, fear of death is a perfectly natural emotion, and 2, there are actually people working to make dying a thing of the past. Radical-sounding, I know, but there are some pretty amazing medical developments in the pipeline, and if you take care of yourself and live long enough, you might just live forever....

It's more along the lines of HOW I'm going to get to the other side that gets me. The thought of where I would go afterwords doesn't concern me as much for some reason. From all those stories you hear, people can stick around earth and haunt places (if they chose to stick around). So in that case, you'd still be just...here, but who knows right? I would be thinking also of that eternity concept-it just makes me think-living (given the spirit never dies) forever. Think of all that time, and what are you going to do and where will you be for eternity? Time would never end, what would you do? Hmm

There’s just no point in fearing death, only the things that send you there early.
Fear is for helping you escape from large hungry cats; if you are in a warm safe bed, you should be thinking “Lucky me.”
If you actually go somewhere after you die, you should be thinking “Lucky me.”
If you just disappear, you won’t be thinking anything,
so what's the point in being afraid that one day you won’t be afraid?

we are part of the universe , we're inseperable , think deeper and relax. Be patient , your time to die will come someday as will all living things , that is the cycle of creation.
you see we are part of a much bigger , complex operation. many things are happening at once with many observers but there is only 1 consciousness.

Well, if you are looking for a scientific answer no one can answer you. The only thing that can answer your question is religion. I'm not sure what religion you follow but in my religion Sikhism at death our souls either go to heaven or re-incarnated in to another being, now this is similar to what is said in the Hinduism religion but not exactly. If you follow a religion I would go to your church and ask your priest for some guidance or do a philosophical discussion with friends or family about it, just you are like now it will make you feel better.

Everyone is. It is the unknown. People fear what they don't understand or know for certain, death is not exception. No one knows that lies on the other side, or even if there is another side. The fact of the matter is that we must live this life to the best of our ability.
