I read a similar question someone else posted and i've tried some of the things people suggested for removing the odors but it doesn't work. I've tried grinding lemons down the garbage disposal and putting baking soda down the drain. It doesn't smell just walking by the sink but whenever I wash dishes and then let the water drain out of the basin when I'm done, it smells horrible for a few seconds. The lemon only temporarily disguises the smell and I don't think the baking soda helped. I want to actually get rid of the smell completely- not disguise it. Any suggestions?

the smell has to be in the house side of the trap ( u- shape under the sink) It is spoiled water, sludge, etc. Try boiling some water on the stove and pouring down both drains. Then follow with bleach. Once a day, run hot water down both drains.

Well, I have to say baking soda and pouring white vinegar over it so it bubbles. I bet you have a nasty clog of something in there. Have you tried to fill the sink with warm soapy water and before it all drains out plunging it with a plunger. If you have double sinks, block the other drain. There's also a white plastic strip with barbs on it that you can buy almost any place where they have plumbing supplies. You stick this plastic strip into the drain, and push and pull, and push and pull and see what you loosen up. You can also try a bucket with about 1/4 cub of bleach and some laundry soap added to it to put through the drain--use one bucket for each sink. Do that once a week. You can also use the water before hand to was your counters, tables, sinks, etc. Good luck.

I wonder if ground up garbage has accumulated in back corners of the garbage disposal or in the trap of the drain.

I would disconnect the garbage disposal, take it in the back yard and flush it out in reverse. Take it apart as much as you can and clean what you can.

Also remove the drain trap, clean it out and clean out all the drain.

The odor is likely garbage residue and until it is gone the odor will remain.

The garbage disposal is pretty heavy and you need to disconnect it from electric power too. Some water may be in the lines so you should empty everything from under the sink before you start. If you are unsure how to get the disposal out you may want to get local help.

Some times I pour a cup of bleach down the drain. Other times when I have a can of Coke I pour that down the drain. My dad told me it eats some of the things in the drain and keeps it form smelling. Coke has an emsine that eats things and I try not to drink coke.

I put lots of Clorox in my drains. After it sits for a while I flush with hot water.

I also put lots of baking soda, and a small amount of water.
Let that sit for a while. Then I flush with hot water.

I do all of that in the same day......... GOOD LUCK !!

it sounds like there is no trap (the s looking thing under the sink)if it is not there you need to have one installed so the sewer gasses cannot come up into the sink
