In 1996/1997, the WWF brought in ECW wrestlers to co-promote the two brands, with great success.
In 2006, Ring of Honor and Combat Zone Wrestling used the hatred the two companies fans had for each other by having a 'CZW Invasion' of ROH. It was successful to both companies.
These are just two examples of a consistent trend in the wrestling busniess. By fusing the products of two companies, the fans of each get a taste of a new product, and usually become more fond of it.
