True conservative: Reagan style conservative. Keeping government out of people's lives as much as possible. Small government, fiscal conservatism. Traditional judeo-christian values. Keeping America strong economically and strategically on the world stage.

None,
Rudy Giuliani- opportunist, one trick pony who does not have a conservative bone in his body; has demonstrated he would put money before country.
Ron Paul- more libertarian than Conservative republican
Tom Tancredo- another one trick pony who is somewhat conservative but not a true one
John McCain- former maverick trying to masquerade as a conservative. they aren't buying it and his fund raising numbers show it.
Mitt Romney- trying to morph, also a fake. When he was governor behaved like a centrist such as woman's right to choose, gun control etc. Now that he wants to run for President, lifelong hunter, prolife.
Sam Brownback- so far right that a woman could not even terminate a pregnancy even if it was as a result of a rape. but is a true believer in free trade, voted yes every time
Jim Gilmore- believes in abortion up to 12 weeks.
Mike Huckabee-supports free trade
Duncan Hunter-believes in free trade and believes in giving corporations tax breaks even if they keep profits overseas; voted no to providing grants to black and hispanic colleges.
Fred Thompson- lobbyist actor masquerading as a conservative. lobbied to benefit pharmaceutical companies- nuff said.

Conservatism originally was very libertarian. The easiest way to answer this question is to compare ideals of candidates to ideals of our founding fathers. The founding fathers were very cautious of governments ability and tendency to abuse power. Their belief was that government should be limited in every possible way, so the government would serve the people and not the other way around. Ron Paul is the only one who doesn't want to feed the beast. Other "conservative" candidates may not want to expand the government but Ron Paul is serious about reducing government bureaucracy. Even his separationist ideals align with the founding fathers.
I really like him and respect his ideology but I fear that the gap between Paul and congress/senate is so wide that his presidency would be ineffective. It's because he's the only "true conservative".
I would be curious if anyone out there thinks another candidate aligns closer to the founding fathers.

i've got heard stable issues approximately Romney. i've got puzzled what stance the Christian conservatives will take as properly. Mormons are stable human beings in spite of the fact which you think of approximately their religious ideals. I unquestionably have countless Mormon pals and that they are incredible human beings. He might fairly deliver integrity and intelligence to the table as a candidate. And with the Church of Latter Day Saints in the back of him, he'd have massive help. i'm so uninterested with grimy politics right here in my domicile state and county on the 2d ......grrrrr. it rather is all approximately money....greed, greed, greed. we've a sleazeball pushing a invoice to deannex area of our city...he does not even signify our area.

Ron Paul would be the only true to definition conservative in the bunch. The rest are the new age neo-con types.

I think there are several. But your definition of "true conservative" runs the board in your question, so why not define it for us.
Okay, then. Thanks. My vote could go to either Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson at this point.
And a true Conservative would be a state's righter on the abortion issue, in my opinion.

i don't think any of them are. to the best of my knowledge a true conservative is:
Anti-Immigration
Anti-Gay Rights
Anti-Internationalism
Anti-Gun Control
Pro-Iraq
Pro-Choice
none of the candidates are 100% in accordance with this. i think Mitt Romney comes closest though.
