I bought a leopard gecko on july 4th and i have had it for a day
it walks aroung during the day time
shouldn't it be sleeping?
Also it never goes into the humid hide place.
it is 4-5 inches including the tail
it lives on calcium sand and it only eats from my hand
if i mist the tank will the sand create bacteria or something?

and my bearded dragon hates waxworms is there any way i can make my beardie eat them?

Yes, usually Leopard geckos should be sleeping during the day. Since you've had her no time at all, once she finds the hide and everything she should get onto a more normal schedule. Next, calcium sand isn't a very good substrate. I would use paper towels while it's young. Also, always leave a dish of calcium powder in there so she can lick it up when she needs calcium. (This helps prevent her from eating the substrate, whatever it is.) You never need to mist her tank! Only keep her hide humid (mist it every other day or so), but the rest of the tank NEEDS to be dry.

As for the waxworms and the beardie, sometimes you just have to keep trying. Put a waxworm in their dish with the daily vegetables. Usually they like waxworms after a while.

Check out the forums on www.reptilerooms.com for some great care info. No Calci-sand--it's the number one reason we see Leos for impactions. They will go in the humid hide when they feel the need--usually around shedding. No misting! Hopefully you have an under the tank heat mat, a warm dry hide, and a cool hide. It is probably getting used to its new house, and eventually will come out at night and sleep during the day.
You can't force your beardie to eat something it doesn't like--try crickets, superworms, phoenix worms instead.

everything the leapord gecko is doing is normal.except, for the calcium sand. i would get rid of that and find a different substrate. and as long as you clean out the tank every week or month, bacteria wont be a problem. the bearded dragon needs crickets and lettuce to. i would reccomend feeding him proper sized mice also.

I'd watch out for the calcium sand too. They sometimes cause impactions which can lead to a hefty vet bill.
