It was Bill Bergen, who went 46 at-bats without a hit during the 1909 season:

If pitchers are included, then it would be Bob Buhl and his 85 plate appearances without a hit in 1962.

Bill Bergen
He holds a number of records for bad hitting, such as an 0 for 46 streak in 1909 (this is the longest hitless streak by a non-pitcher: Bob Buhl holds the overall record with 0 for 87, including 0 for 70 in one season). He has the lowest career batting average of any player with 1000 or more at bats, at .170.
Holds the record for longest "0-fer" in a season, going 0 for 70 in 1963. This was part of an 0 for 87 streak, which is also a record.
Got a hit one of the first times he ever tried hitting left-handed, but this proved to be a fluke as subsequent at bats from the other side of the plate proved to be as futile as his normal at bats.
Bob Buhl holds the record also but he was not a regluar everyday player he was a pitcher.
