Visible bleeding, visible vomiting, broken limbs, the craps with a note, fevers over 100, church, infectious diseases and other notes from doctors are the only things that get my kids out of practice without grief.

Excuses that don't work include cramps (girls), cramping muscles, swallowing water, upset stomach, cuts, bruises, headaches (with exception of migraines, which come with a note!), sore muscles, gym class, math tests, school dances, too tired because I stayed up late (not my problem!), hunger (I provide granola bars), broken nails, no suit/cap/goggles (borrow those things!), homework, stubbed toes, forgotten water bottles and any other creative junk they come up with.

We have an attendance policy and even kids on crutches tend to come to practice and help out or watch so they can eventually swim. Dedication is a big part of our program!

I'm assuming you mean good excuses for not swimming, so I'll say one is that you always swallow water, another is that you saw a shark in the pool.
