They are not hard to install at all, and the best way to install one is to follow the step by step install guide that comes with the router.

1) Connect the Broadband Modem to the wall connection
2) Connect a ethernet cable from the broadband modem to the WAN (Internet) port of the router
3) Connect a ethernet cable from one of the routers ethernet ports to a computers ethernet port
4) Log into the routers configuration page by opening a browser and typing the routers IP address
5) Configure the Internet Connection settings in the router for your ISP (Usually Cable Internet is a Dynamic IP and a DSL Internet is a PPPOE)
6) If its a wireless router turn on the wireless capabilities, name the SSID and set the security you want and make sure DHCP is enabled.

That should be it.......

Quite simple. A newbie can easily follow it with the instructions and CDs thatz provided with a new router. However, there are certain entries that you would be required to collect from your ISP, depending on the connection that you have to your Internet. The required questions that are needed to known from your ISP can be obtained from the manuals.

So, have a read thru the manuals. Get the necessary info, if any and then you are all set to configure the router.

Just rememeber to put a password to your wireless network after configuring, so that others do not party with your wireless network.

No, it's quite easy because it's just plug-and-play but you must know plugging what to what. Normally the unit comes with some sort of user's manual in the box. Just follow the instructions. The manual also shows you how to configure the router to install extra features but this is only necessary if you want to secure your home wireless network.

If you are a beginner, you can usually follow along with the install CD if you buy like a linksys for example. The install cd has a step by step guide and once you are done with each step, you click next then it goes to the next page of instructions.

Most of them just plug them into your dsl/cable/satellite modem and you are off to the races. However, you should read the manual so you can harden your security. I would either get a Linksys or Netgear router.
