In current society, "handedness" is simply defined as the hand you use to write with, but scientists measure handedness in many ways.
Scientists will also use measures of grip strengh, hand preference in other tasks, and hand speed in manual tasks.
Are you left-handed or right handed?
If you are left-handed, what are some of the comments or nicknames you have gotten from people about it??
I am a lefty and I have been joked with about it, nicknamed because of it, but have also gotten some not so nice remarks.

I am not a blonde, never have been, never will be and it's NOT a blonde question.......It's just a question of interest for me being left-handed and I am the only one in my family that is and haven't met many others that are left-handed.

That is true about smearing the ink/lead all over lol......I have 4 children and none of them are left-handed. I have one great aunt that I know of.
A few weeks ago, I was at the grocery store and was writing my check for my purchase and an older gentleman behind me spoke up and said, "Oh a southpaw, did you know that southpaws die younger than right-handed people?"
I didn't even know how to respond to that. I just ignored him and got out of there, but I found it crude and rude and then it got me to thinking about it, so thats why I posted here.

I can't be serious even here:
I'm right-handed (I write and eat with my right hand lol:), so that makes me right-handed.
BUT:
When I gotta hit someone, I do it with my left hand lol.
When I play field-tennis or table-tennis I use my left hand (this is not a joke!)
As a matter of fact this is something very strange about me that I can't explain.
Oh well, life goes on.

Whoa, this is a great question, and you are getting one big fat gold star for it. This question is very interesting to me, because although I am right handed, I have a pronounced left handed slant. Everyone asks me if I'm a lefty and I tell them, no, a righty..I've read some books on handwriting analysis, and supposedly because I tend to slant towards the left even though I'm right handed, it means I'm creative and introverted (pretty much the case). Also, my handwriting has been described by certain smart a**s's as "Hieroglyphics". (but I think that's kind of cool because no one will be able to read my journal! bwahaha! People say the hieroglyphics thing, and why don't I start writing on cave walls, etc. It's really stupid, I agree.

I am a southpaw too! I am in my late 20's and to this day I still get people looking at me like I am a freak-like they have never seen someone write that way.
Neither of my parents or any of my grandparents were lefties, yet me and my two bros are lefties; both of my children are lefties too (their dad is a righty.)
I've never had anyone say anything negative about my "handedness". The one thing that is bothersome is getting pencil smeared all over your hand when you are writting. Gets all over the place.

What about those of us who are Ambidextrous - skilled with both hands...
I am more skilled with my right hand - but my left is actually stronger (though a bit more clumsy) for short periods of time ;););)
The strange thing is that the second anyone sees you use your left hand for ANYTHING - they automatically assume you are a lefty. I do 99% of things with my right, but I occasionally use the left when I want to do two things at once.

Right handed. However I have tries to practice writing with my left-hand for years, in hopes of becoming ambidextrous, but to no avail I still can not write legibly with my left-hand.

I am right handed. There is nothing wrong with being left handed, though.
