Many people do because that's the way they are, but they shouldn't.

Because in a very real sense, they *are* granted. You don't choose them, they're part of the necessary reality of your existence. You cannot be alive and not have a family of some kind (whether alive or dead).
Since they are part of your experience from the moment you are born, it's easy to assume that they will always be part of your life (and really, they pretty much will be, in one way or another). Unfortunately, because they're always there, it takes some experience before we learn to appreciate and value them.

It seems to be human nature to take for granted the things we have regularly. There was a song when I was young that said "You don't know what you've got till it's gone". You ever have the electricity go off? God, you don't realize how much it means till it's not there.

because of the assurance that they will be there anytime. although it is not right to take them for granted ,we always seem to think of them most of the times when we are in trouble and if there's nowhere to turn to.we all somehow believe that family is family no matter what.

A privileged outlook. Some families are worse than those who are behind bars in the finest institutions on the planet.

Do we? I don't.
I know people with no family, from no fault of their own, and I am ever grateful that I have a close family whom I appreciate very much.

We do not realize how quickly our loved ones can be taken from us and we are unwilling to admit how much they influence our lives.

Cause its something that will always be there irregardless of one's actions. Thus making their presence underappreciated.
