What do you think will happen? Will Republican Congresspeople put a stop to US involvement in Iraq soon enough to make Iraq a non-issue in the upcoming Presidential election? Will it be same-o same-o with a lot of quibbling? Please speculate on this. Please share your thoughts.

Nope. Democrats have been in power and cannot even get a majority to vote to cut off funding.

The American people voted against Republicans because the Republicans were not being Republicans. Democrats were the recipients of this. Now that they have to do something, they get nothing done.

I think the Democrats have already given both houses and the presidency to Republicans

There is no way there will be a stop to the war in Iraq soon enough to make Iraq a non-issue in the upcoming Presidential election. I am sure it will be the same-o, same-o. I really feel once we get the Iraq soldier up and trained we will still have some of our soldiers there to do the police action. I know the news tries to make out that the republicans do not have a snowballs chance in hell to win the next Presidential election, but you know half the time the news is full of............
I don't like them and I do not trust them. They R Bias. I really do not see what the Democratic Party has to offer for the President. All I know is if Hilary Clinton gets in I am leaving this country. I watch the Democratic debate on KSPS TV and they all made me want to laugh. The all reminded me of paper cut out, boring, no charisma, not really stimulating. Told the audience every thing they wanted to hear, there was no sincerity. Made me want to puke. Hilary is as Phony as a 3 dollar bill and if any one can not see that I guess they get what they deserve if she gets in.

I can't imagine a total about face happening in the time period before the elections. We'd like to think the electors influence the congresspeople but I think they like the power more. I know, I am a cynic or am I right? Even in countries not involved with Iraq, those who are in a "peace-keeping" role in Afghanistan many citizens believe their troops should come home. Why does the president think he is responsible for saving the whole world for democracy. In some countries it just won't work at least not for a very long time; they are tribal nations and have been for centuries. It is up to those people to decide what they want. It's all so horribly tragic right now.

There is no short answer. Will they allow Iraq to lose....? Iraqi's don't vote in our system - Americans do. Therefore the public must decide if they will vote differently based on the current status of Iraq. It is almost always clearer after the fact. It is amazing to hear people speak about an event through hinsight and believe that they would have done things differently.
I would hope that they (as you indicated - the Republican Congresspeople) do not pull out based on elections but instead on wether or not it is in the best interest of our Country.
Regardless of how I vote or you vote - the important thing is that people do exercise their freedom and actually place their votes instead of talking about who or what they would have, could have, should have voted for.

Bush is going to do his darnedest (along with some help from the republican party) of making sure that troops are still in Iraq when the Democrats take control in the next election. They will take control, it's a given (Unless Obama and Hillary get caught naked and wearing fun-dies together at a Al Queda kegger/strip party).
His presidency has been a failure and he DOES NOT want to have being the president who started the war in Iraq AND lost it.
Although he has lost it, make no mistake. His/their best hope right now is to drag it out until the democrats are in office, and then when they pull the troops out of Iraq, the Republicans will scream on T.V. ads over and over how (Insert Democratic president) is responsible for losing the war in Iraq!!! Vote republican in the next election! A Republican wouldn't have lost the Iraq war and pulled the troops out, causing all the problems we have now!!!

It's exactly what I'd do in Bush's position!

If the past is any indicator, the Republicans will allow Iraq to become an issue. I don't see how they will be able to stop our involvement prior to the Presidential election so I think they will do their best to try and convince the American people that we "have" to continue on in Iraq. We will probably be bombarded with "facts" tying Iraqi insurgents to all the evils in this world and the Democrats will be cast as UnAmerican if they oppose our involvement in Iraq. And of course, you can expect numerous "terrorist alerts" between now and the election to emphasize the importance of keeping those who are tough on terror (i.e. Republicans) in power. Could be an interesting 18 months.

The damage has already been done. The war in Iraq and the presidental pardon is no sitting well with almost 3/4 of the public. Personally, if I were a Repub Congressperson, I would have started separating myself from the current administration a long time ago. Im a Demo, and it appears it is going to be a vote for the lessor of the evils.

I truly believe Republicans will not be the majority leaders for congress for a very very long time, if ever again.

President Bush has ruined the future of the Republican party, Pulling out of Iraq is not going to affect the views of people at this point, the ruin has been done.

I will vote Republican ( IF and only IF the right canidates make the gubernatorial.) If not I will be voting independant.

Regardless of what the Republicans do with Iraq ,the Democrat's have equal problems with the way they are handling the immigration issue. My hope is that this election will be decided on issues concerning good government and not personal, moral, religious issues like the last two.It is my belief that if government spent more time making itself accountable and not legislating morality then we would have a more effective body to police the laws that are already on the books.

regardless they have an argument . If we are no longer in Iraq from retreating then it was the dems fault for quiting and we need a republican for security . If we are still there they will say we can't have a democrat run a war . If we win then that is a guaranteed republican victory . I didn't say a good argument , but that is what I think they would say , and when I say they I mean conservative radio
