Check out the City Market downtown on Meeting St.
at Market St.
Park near there and just walk around the old town, or go up Meeting 'St. to the info center.
You can take a ghost tour,tours of old houses, check out Fort Sumter, and the waterfront is pretty scenic. There's good southern food, like at Jestine's kitchen, on Meeting st. and the atmosphere is old south and charming.
There's an Aquarium to visit, too, right near downtown at the east end of Calhoun St. on the waterfront.
I'd say the best time to vist would be October to June.
It must be hot and humid there in the dog days of summer.
