In South east Queensland.
Gold Coast is one hour south of Brisbane and Sunshine Coast is one hour north of Brisbane.
I live on the Sunshine Coast....it is more relaxed than the Gold Coast but not as many things to do here

The Gold Coast is 1 hour south of Brisbane - great family fun, surf beaches, theme parks, great shopping, nightlife and lots to do.
The Sunshine Coast is 1 hour north of Brisbane - great for couples, deserted beaches, surfing, wild life, quiet cafes and relaxing.
Used to always go back to the Gold Coast in our 20's and 30's.
Now in our 40's we love the Sunshine Coast, especially Noosa.

Queensland Gold coast - Surfers Paradise etc :::::
Gold Coast City stretches from Beenleigh on the southern fringe of Logan City, for approximately 60km (38 miles) south to Coolangatta situated on the New South Wales border, and extends west to the foothills of the Great Dividing Range in World Heritage listed Lamington National Park. Tweed Heads and sections of Beaudesert are also commonly referred to as being a part of 'The Gold Coast' region. However, they do not fall into the statistical boundaries of Gold Coast City.
Queensland, Sunshine Coast:::::
The Coast begins at Caloundra, just one hour's drive north of Brisbane and extends to Cooloola, the gateway to Fraser Island. It takes in tranquil hinterland including the Glass House Mountains, Blackall Range, Noosa Hinterland and the Mary Valley; as well as more than 100 kilometres of beaches stretching through the coastal towns of Caloundra, Kawana, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Coolum Beach, Noosa and Rainbow Beach.
