If a word in the dictonary was mispelled, how would we know?

If you disagree you would have to get the dictionary publishers to research it and agree with your spelling version

The nature of language is to communicate. A particular language is a specific group of words that are universally used to communicate that language.

So basically, the fact that everyone uses the spelling of that word, makes it correct, in itself. Languages always evolve.
