Why do people even use MySpace?

Question

There's tons of other better social networking sites out there, many way better than MySpace. Like FaceBook, Windows Live Spaces, Wallop (in beta), tons of other sites. Sure, they don't have the true American popularity as MySpace, but that's because I think people are unwilling to accept something new or a change. Like many people have iPods, while there's many other players that outdo the iPod. Is it because people are so used to MySpace, that they can't bear to try another site?

Plus the fact that MySpace really isn't a good site at all, doesn't make it better. Like the design and structure of the site is horrible. You've got predators all over there, and not until recently has MySpace done anything. Google tracks down private info. on they're users, making it 'look nice' is downright hard. Overall, it's just plain horrible.

So exactly why do people like to use MySpace, why can't they try to move on, and what's wrong with the other sites?

I've never used myspace, i often use facebook and occasionally windows live spaces.

Myspace is a site that has gained popularity for the fact that it helps you keep in touch with many people. You can use facebook and other things and who is to say that people don't? I have a myspace as well as a facebook and each has different features. In a face paced world our people use things like that to stay in touch or just say a quick hello but its all fun and games.

I prefer Myspace simply because more people that I know are there. It is a simple way to keep in contact with people without actually having to remember to e-mail them/call them all the time.

I have a friend from highschool that I had lost touch with over the years and moving. She was a foreign exchange student from Australia. Turns out she was coming back to Texas for a visit and if not for my account on Myspace she never would have found me and we never could have met up.

I agree that Myspace is one of the most poorly designed social networking sites...but people like it because EVERYONE is on it. A mass movement from Myspace to another site would be impossible, so in the mean time it's the best way to connect with everyone you know. It's also much more customizable than other sites. Then again, I like Facebook because it isn't like Myspace, and it's geared toward young adults, not preteens.

I totally agree with you, there are tons of way better sites than Myspace. Myabe it is because of the nearly naked women & men on there...but then again there are other social marketing sites with the same type of pictures and better design, interesting features and they are not popular like myspace and were there way before myspace.

People nowadays usually have multiple accounts with different sites such as MySpace and Facebook but people prefer MySpace because of the sheer amount of people. Plus, I prefer the layout of MySpace better.

People use MySpace to keep in touch with friends. But some people aren't as smart about it and they give away personal information to random people.

MySpace is a dangerous place for people who are not careful but if its used correctly there is no harm in doing so.

i can't really say anything bad about myspace, because i have one, but i agree that it has gotten way too out of hand these days. i don't really understand why people are being so overly obsessed with it. i wish that people would call you over the phone or talk in person rather than "talk" over myspace.

I agree with you. I had a myspace once and I just saw no use in it. I thought it was poorly constructed and there were more places I could go that had better features and a lot safer too.

myspace is alot better because you can look up people & add alot of friends(no limit)plus you get better layouts/blogs & alot more communicating also.you can add awesome music use projectplaylist.com & also do alot of cool things like make a fansite/contest site & determine how many people view your profile...myspace is alot better but not for really young kids!:)

i think the only reason people use myspace is because the can see who they are chatting with and they can actually chat without paying. i have a myspace but i dont use it for nothing.
