Mosquitos avoid Garlic. They also don't like Citronella, Catnip, Rosemary, Thyme, Lemon Balm, Mint. Some people use the Lemon Balm leaves as a repellent.
Iowa State U. researches have reported that an essential oil found in catnip (Nepetalactone)
is more effectivethan DEET. (Organic Gardening Aug/Sept '06) !!!!
A site on companion planting says that one should plant Basil near Peppers & Tomatoes to keep flies & Mosquitos away.
Plant geraniums around your patio; there's some that are especially bred for mosquito repellant qualities.
Good Luck! Hope this helps.

I like marigolds and those mosquito plants that smell like citronella (I am sure I spelled that wrong). The mosquito plants do not look to good, but they work well.
