The Queen is the reigning monarch in the UK. Only a reigning monarch can be a king or queen regent. Charles is the heir apparent, the Prince of Wales;he will become King when he ascends the throne upon the death of his mother.
It's pretty much the same for the Queen's husband.Prince Philip,Duke of Edinburgh, although of royal blood, was not the heir to the throne and must be known as Prince Consort because there is no such title as King Consort for the husband to a reigning Queen-Monarch. As long as there is a Queen-Regent, a reigning queen, there can be no kings. The title king implies a monarch...and that job is taken by the Queen.
This was not a CHOICE as a poster stated,it is the rule of succession. The Queen was heir to the throne of her father George VI and Philip was her husband and not an heir. He was never up for the job of monarch.Charles,as heir, can become King when the present Queen dies or becomes so incompacitated that she can not function.

Charles won't become king until Elizabeth either dies or steps down, and death is the more likely option here. However, that's only if she doesn't decide to change things up and name William her heir, which is also possible.

The only there was a ruling king and queen was William and Mary. Any other time, if the king marries someone she takes the title of queen but doesn't do anything governmentally. If a woman takes the throne, we'll use Queen Victoria as an example, her husband doesn't take the title of king, he remains prince, as Prince Albert did.

Hope that helps.

Well, Prince Charles is not her husband, he is her son so he won't be king until she dies. But, to better answer the real meaning of your question, Prince Phillip is the Queen's husband, and he is a Prince consort, not a king. That was their choice. When the Queen was crowned, she could have chosen to make him King or Prince consort. It was her (thier) decision. I'm not really sure why she didn't but I would guess that she didn't want the people to forget that SHE is the Queen by birth, and even though she's a woman, she's in charge (at least as much as parliament lets her be), not her husband. Remember, she's been Queen a long time, and it has been a very sexist world. If he was made King, people might have looked to him instead of her as the reigning monarch.

Hello!

Because his mother Queen Elizabeth is still alive and on the throne!

He will only become King Charles if
1, she dies or
2, she abdicates (ie gives up the throne).

His brothers Prince Edward and Prince Andrew, and sister Princess Anne will never be the reigning monarchy, because if Prince Charles doesn't become King After Elizabeth, it will be handed down to his eldest son, Prince William.

He won't be King Charles until Queen Elizabeth II dies! As heir to the throne he is a Prince until then .... or did you mean Prince Philip?

He is not known as King Charles because he won't be King until his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, dies. At that point, if he is still alive and he doesn't abdicate, then he would be crowned King, and would be officially addressed as King Charles.

You probably mean Prince Philip, the queen's husband. Prince Charles is their son and ex-husband of Diana. I don't know why he's called a Prince instead of a King.

Well its not hard to work this out he can't be King whilst we have a queen, thats why he is a prince He will sadly become King when the Queen dies or gives up the throne, unless he does not want it

You are not from here are you? LOL

He is her son, not her husband, the only way Charles will be King is if his mother passes the the title will pass to him, if she steps down from her role (highly doubtful) then he will also become King.

For the answerer above SpartaMonkey15, Prince Charles has been re-married for quite some time now to Camilla Parker Bowles, if Charles does become King she will not be able to hold the title of Queen but will be Consort

Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh is married to Queen Elizabeth. He comes from the royal family of Greece.

Queen Elizabeth chose not to give Prince Philip the title of King. Instead he is her royal consort.

All matters concerning the English monarchy remains safely within the hands of the English Monarchy Queen Elizabeth.
It is said that Prince Phillip, himself also did not wish to be King because of his royal ties to Greece.

Prince Charles is Queen Elizabeth's son. He will inherit the throne when Queen Elizabeth dies.

Queen Elizabeth inherited the throne from her father, King George IV, after his death.

Originally, his older brother Edward, the firstborn son, was to have been King. He abdicated his right to the throne in order to marry his lady love Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee.

Their love affair threatened the English Monarchy. Edward refused to give up Wallis. Instead he gave up his right to be King.
