Heavy weights and low reps build muscle bulk.
Lighter weights and higher reps will build strength, without the bulk. For vertical leap, you want the muscles to be strong, but do not need the bulk.
Low weight and high reps will do what you want!!

No.
Use Light to moderate weight for explosiveness!
Do legg presses and calf presses with heavyer weights to develop power also.
Running is also key to how high you jump. Longer strides will not necesarrily produce more lift when you jump. Footwork is also key. So do exercises that develop footwork as well.

its better to do lighter weight with more reps...start off with a light weight and then increase with every new set...try that and see if it works
