If your car keeps leaking oil out, then yes. I drove a car for 2 years without an oil change...well...with a constant oil change, rather. Everytime I'd check the levels during the 2 years the oil would be clean. Went through 1 quart a week. Thinking about it now, I should have just replaced the bad gaskets, but I never thought the car would last that long.

No! A shop may not hold any car, except for non-payment of repairs already authorized and made. They can only recommend that you have things fixed. Why go there? Go someplace else. Some shops pay their employees a bonus for finding additional work. Some shops abuse this, and try to scare car owners into unnecessary repairs. Take it to another shop (preferably not a mass marketer like Midas or K-mark etc.) and don't tell them about what Midas wants to do. Have the oil changed, and see if they also find other problems. All shops do visual inspections as part of an oil change while the car is up on the hoist

I know of a few people who have done this since the car was new. The sludge builds up in the oil pan but the engine will last about 90,000 miles before it locks up. By that time there is enough room in the pan for about 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil because there is so much sludge in the pan.
The people that did this were running Penzoil and were told they would never have to change their oil. Bulls***t.

3000,miles is average on oil change, if it's a oil burner an on it's way to the bone yard. Than keep putting it in.

Not if you like your car. Change the oil at the intervals in your owner's manual.

No but you can go 5 thousand if you like. Run thicker oil if it burns it.

its better to get it changed because sludge could build up and oil changes remove harmful sediment

If your burning it or leaking it then theres a problem. No you don't want to overfill it either. I would go get it changed or do it yourself every 3,000 miles.
