how do i check what's on my computer's memory?

Memory or hard drive? if memory, you can download programs that will ''exercise'' the memory chips for performance testing...
if hard drive, there are LOTS of programs to either examine drive contents,or totally erase the drive, or defragment the existing information to enhance drive performance.

Are you talking about hitting the keys "Control -Alt-Del". That will pull up a window and you can see what is running. You can google each process to see if its friend or foe.
