I have an Excel list of a thousand different stocks, and I want the historic opening and closing stock prices to be automatically updated on that Excel list. Doing this manually is extremely tedious. Is there any Excel functionality or plug-in that will enable me to grab the updated stock prices automatically from a website (e.g. Yahoo Finance)?

In excell Tools-->Options Click the Calculation Tab Click the Automatic radio and hit the Calc SHeet button. Click OK Try the change a cell that's value is dependant on a result in another cell and see if the resulting cell changes automatically. Don't listen to that guy, Excel 2007 is a waste of time especially with .NET programming.

You can set up web queries for them, which is listed under tools/external data/web queries. Or if you have a subscription to bloomberg, you can download it using the bloomberg api which is an awesome tool.
