lol lol a bit extreme I didnt know that new labour had put more criminals in prison due to the media exposure to certains cases you would think the judiciary working on parliaments orders were letting people off light, even though such cases were very serious, its all so mad and disturbing.

The criminal and civil sanctions regime are only as effective as people think they are. Reasonable people think the regime is effective, but there is much complexity and flexibility that allows certain users of the system to exploit loopholes and form their own notional conceptions of justice, or escape justice altogether. Non reasonable people, would probably think the regime is not effective - they do not care about the sanctions, or if they do care they consider the utilitarian happiness of their crimes outweighs the pain that will be inflicted on them.

Of course, we need not use sanctions at all. But then, if we do not use sanctions, how will people have confidence in the effectiveness and the validity of the law. This will take you to the Jurisprudence debate and the normativity of the law.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT - thats the solution.

simple... RAPE, MURDER, all the big ones.. bang off they go.. and yeah there will be a few mistake but not that many !

also... make other stuff more serious, and deal with it such...

Granny bashing, beating up women, all wrong... just need to produce a list and hand it out at school so people understand the rules...

AND i would drop the age limit for Ciminals to - no limits... throw the little buggers who think they are hardnut in with the proper criminals and it might put them off...

i also think that crims should be treated as such... small space, no luxuries, **** food, no education... chain em up, work em like in the films...

its rediculous - this is PC gone to gail system...

I believe violent criminals should be given a long stretch in
prison and made to pay for it, Why should we foot the bill to
keep them there. It costs £50,000 per year to keep someone like Ian Huntley possibly more due to his protection needs.
But I know for a fact that alot of prisons in and around Britain are mainly full of Alcoholics,Drug addicts, and mental Health patients. I also know of one which I shall not name but it is in an up market area. It grows all of its own vegetables. The meals are said to be the best anywhere. The prisoners are allowed to sunbath in the exercises yard. The cells have television and people are committing crime to get in there. I was thinking of booking a two week holiday myself. I am currently abroad and have had need to visit the embassy which happens to be near the prison, again in a very upmarket area. The prison is holding many refugees and asylum seekers. The prisoners have complained there is no air conditioning which apparently is their human right. I also have no air conditioning do you think if I reported it to the police it would be a human right case.

It all depends on whether you think prisons are for punishment or for rehabilitation.
New Labour are sending more people to prison than any other post war Government, the numbers of re offenders are on the increase.
Prison does not work having been in a few prisons there pretty grim places but obviously not grim enough. Bring back the Birch and public floggings great entertainment and effective deterrent
