I want an Acura TL and my dad has said that he would buy me a car for my 18th birthday. He wants to make sure the car I want is safe and reliable. So, is an Acura TL a good car for a teenager?

The Acura TL is a great car and fun to drive the only problem with the TL is that it has a lot of front end torque which means that if you step on the gas all the power goes to the front wheels which if you are turning could pull the steering wheel away from your hands. Also with all of these people saying that you can compare the accord to the TL they are crazy and don't know their cars. The TSX is comparable to the accord and you can get an accord with leather and so on and so on. The honda is a great car but it is no Acura. The handling is better there are more features and the overall ride is better. The safety is about the same because it is Honda. If you want to see how safe they are go to nhtsa's web site and look at the safety ratings. I would tell you to go for the TSX because it has almost all the same things as the TL you just don't have the same power which you do not need at this time. You might wan't to wait because the new version's of the TSX, TL, and RL will be out in the 09 model which will hit dealerships starting in April of 08.

The TSX is a smaller car with a smaller engine, and would get better gas mileage if you have to pay for your own gas. The car will still get up and go if you need it to, and i bet no one else at your school has one. If you did total it, it would cost less than a TL to repair. On the other hand, the TL is a bigger car, with a much bigger engine. It will fly. If you did wreck it you would be more likely to survive, because you've got more metal around ya. The TL would also earn a lot more respect from people, and there is a fairly decent following and aftermarket for them. Your questing is if its good for a teenager, and that depends on the type of teen your are, and judging that your parents will buy either of the cars for you, they will probably pay for your gas and insurance money, and for you I would recommend the TL.

the TL is definately safe and reliable. Most all hondas and acuras are. I currently drive a 2004 TL now, and I think it is a little bit large for a teenager. I had an integra and a cl through college and shortly after. I liked them better.

The TL is also a bit expensive for an 18 year old if you are buying it new. Out the door right now for the new 2007 models is like 38,000 to 40,000 depending on what you add on to the car. My parents would never buy me anything over $25,000 when I was that age.

but as a general all purpose, nicely styled, reliable car, the TL is great.

Certainly the TL is a safe and reliable car. It's aimed at the successful mid-30's family that needs a sedan and wants a bit of sport. However I'm going to join many of the others and suggest an alternative. The Honda Accord Coupe EX-L (with the 4 cylinder engine) is better looking, still has a lot of power, and I'd bet it's a better chick magnet. Cheaper than the TL, although not a cheap car by any means. EX-L for the navigation system. Has all the current safety features, good crash ratings, and Accords have a long history of superior reliability.

Even thought TL's are sweet, its not a good car for a teenager, theyre fast and have many luxuries. If i were you, and your dad will pay for a car at that price, i would get a Mazda RX-8 or An accord coupe V6, theyre both reliable and fast(but not as fast as a tl). I'd wait till the new accord comes out cause it looks so rediculously cool.

A TL is a great car for most ages, but as a teenager i would rather a RSX. They are cheaper in the first place sporty, reliable and safe!

Of course the TL is a great car but its finer qualities might only be appreciated by an adult. The reason for this is because Acura is the luxury division of Honda, just like Lexus is to Toyota. The TL is the same car mechanically as the Honda Accord and the Accord is several thousand dollars cheaper; however you can't get leather seats in an Accord. I've ridden in both and while I can't deny that the TL is more pleasurable to be in, the Accord is a greater value. Try and get the V6 if you can, more power ;)
