It depends on the crime committed. If it's a serious offense then they do the time. If it's a non violent crime such as being here illegally they should be booked, finger printed, photoed and sent home, first offense only. Second time it's the crow bar motel for them.
I cannot believe so many miss the big picture on this issue, this is not rocket science.
Almost all of them are coming here for employment. It is illegal to hire anyone without the proper documents.

Yes, in theory. The problem with sending them home is that they will be back across the border within hours of being sent home. Then, you have a convicted felon walking the streets, again.
Once we seal the borders and stop illegal immigration, then we can send all the illegal convicts home.

Yeah right. You'd be sending them on a trip of death unless they tell us about their alien technology. They would have to travel through a wormhole or travel faster than the speed of light (relative to a stationary observer) -- and that is impossible. My solution: keep the aliens here, and force them to tell us about their technology, then we can generate enough revenue with patents to more than pay for their time in prison.
