Make sure to rinse your sponges well after each use. Squeeze out any excess water and sit upright to dry. Also after each use you can wet the sponge, sqeeze out excess water and put in hte microwave for 2 minutes on high, this will kill the germs on the sponge.

For the garbage disposal, put in a lemon wedge. Turn on the disposal. Lemon is a great degreaser and deodorizer.

Pout 1 cup salt and 1 cup vinegar down the drain with 3 cups boiling water. Allow to set for an hour, then flush with cold water. This will not only clean the disposal, but it will also clean out the drain. Do this once a week.

Also, you can throw a chopped up lemon in the disposal.

Either wash your sponges in the dishwasher or in the washing machine. Air dry, and do this weekly also.

I would throw the sponges away. You aren't supposed to use them more then a month anyways. Washing them in hot water and bleach in the washing machine if they start to smell and you want to keep them.

Put lemons down the disposal and grind them up that will make the sink smell great

for your garbage disposal, they sell cleaners likeDispose away. It comes in a packet and you stick it in grind it up and it foams and cleans. If you want somehing in between try baking soda nad vinegar. Pour baking soda down the drain then pour in vinegar, it will foam up and clean the garbage diposal. Plus, it is really cheap.

Make sure you never grind lemon or ice in your garbage diposal. If any pieces of the rind get stuck in your disposal they will begin to mold and stink up your entire kitchen. Ice will simply dull your blades. It is an old wives tale that they sharpen blades.

for your sponge, make sure that at night you ring all the water out of it so it has time to dry. Also if you use antibacterial dish soap it should keep any germs from living in your sponge, the bacteria are the things causing it to smell. Make sure no food is sticking to your sponge when you leave it next to your sink. This also will cause it to smell. Hope this helps.

Pour some baking soda down the drain, follow with a cup of vinegar (it will bubble up). This will clean the drain. You can also leave the sponge in the sink while you do it, and then, put the sponge in the dishwasher whenever you run it. It'll stay fresh and clean.

Sponges harbor bacteria which causes foul smells. Wash your sponges in hot water w/ bleach and air dry. Best choice is to get rid of them and use dish rags. Easier to keep clean. For disposal, I like to run with a bit of Lysol Cleaner, or you can grind up orange peels to refresh.

Essentially, the odors are caused by food particles that are not being rinsed away. There are a number of ways you can address this. One is to regularly put ice in the unit to break away any residual food particles. To attack the odors, baking soda is known to help, as are coffee grounds. With regards to your sponge, I suggest soaking it once a week in baking soda and water for an hour or so.
