I know I have to have a router, but I have an older Dell Dimension and a laptop. The laptop has the wireless capability but the Dell is older and I don't know what I would need to make it able to use the wireless until my new computer comes.

You need a router as you say. You can use a wired router and run cables to both if you want. You can buy a wireless router and connect the notebook to the wireless side and run cable to the Dimension using its built in network port. You can add a wireless network card to the Dimension and connect wirelessly to both pcs from the router.

Cable is a lot more secure and cheaper if you can run the cables

Yes. We have the Hughes satellite internet. We hooked a wireless router to the modem and have had as many as 9 users on it at one time. For your older Dell, get a Llinksys WPC54G wireless card. It will fit in the PCM/CIA slot.
