There is no one person that sounds like Chet Baker, his singing style was from the heart and his playing as well. Chet was brilliant as a musician, his tone was exciting and his sound enlightening. His voice was pure and stemmed from his playing style, they were inseparable. A trumpet player sometimes sings the words to himself while playing or thinks of the melody in terms of the lyrics. It's a way to remember the tune. Lee Morgan played in a style that was somewhat similar as well as Clifford Browne.. Unfortunately none of them are still with us except in recordings, all died way too soon. Their memory lives on in the recordings they left for us to hear.
