could you make two accounts and make the bid go up really high so no one bids, then retract it at the last minute and bid with your real account?

Yeah, I guess you could...but it's highly unethical and it's against ebay's policy. Eventually you would be caught and banned from ebay. Possibly even face criminal prosecution, as that could be considered a form of fraud. Don't risk it.

Cheats pull all sorts of tricks like that. That's why so many people use sniping software to bid at the very last moment.

u can, plenty of people do it. Its actually easy to get away with it. Some people use their friends to bid on their items or have a friend make up a account. but always be careful.

You can do this but make sure your not using the same ip for both accounts and don;t do it frequently, you can still buy stuff but don't do the trick as people will see the pattern
