Nothing. We were both in our 40's when we got together.

I will say, however, that we do clear our schedules with each other....ie: I have PT on Tuesday and I'm taking your daughter driving after, so I'll be home at 7...(late for dinner)...

or

When was that practice I'm driving the 13 year old to?

or

My son graduates on Thursday and your daughter graduates on Friday, what did you want to do with Aunt Ellen when she comes into town for the graduation?

This is a just about every day conversation. Just a quick review of who will be where so we know what we're doing.

I could not function independently if I had to ask his permission every time someone needed something. (His kids or mine.) He would spend all his time having to be available for when I needed to ask his permission for something. Sometimes you just make a judgement call.

I do ask his input on things, and he asks for mine, sometimes. This is what makes us good partners. We do not tally: ie: well, I took the kids to the park on Saturday so now you owe me one...We work as a team and whoever is available covers the required task.

It's called being Adults.

And, it works.

The only thing I need his permission or approval beforehand is if I want to have sex with him. If he's not in the mood, I'm not exactly going to go ahead anyway. Otherwise, I can do as I please.
