I feel your pain -- I used to have the worst nails too. My recommendation comes from searching the internet.

First -- start taking a daily multivitamin. Pre-natal vitamins are notorious for growing long nails and shiny hair, but these are expensive and a little bit scary to any mom/boyfriend coming across them. A decent multi-vitamin should do the trick.

Second -- get a good hand cream. I like Glysomed. It is an intense hand cream. It will moisturize the nail bed and help them to stop cracking.

Next -- double check the products you use. Throw out old or funky nail polishes. Be wary of manicure establishments that are not sanitary (they can give you fungus which is even worse for your nails).

There's always rumors that eating a lot of gelatin (like in Jello) strengthens your nails, and the rumor about calcium intake makes them stronger. I've informally tried out both theories, but not noticed much of a difference.

GOOD LUCK!

Try sally's hard nail product. It is a nail polish that makes your natural nail hard. Also vitamin E helps with growing your nails and your hair. The best thing is to get acrylic on your real nails. This protects your natural nail from breaking and you can monitor your nail growth because you have to get your nails done every two Weeks because the acrylic grows up over top of your nail:)

Good Luck
