ok so today at work i started noticing my feet swelling up which hasn't really happened too much since i've been pregnant. it just got worse and worse (up to my ankles and lower calves) and when i poked my ankles there were indentions where my finger had pressed down. i called the doctors office and they just said lay off the salt and drink a lot of water. So what is wrong with me? As far as i know when poking causes indentions, it's pulmonary edema and that's pretty serious as far as i know. Should i just shrug it off like the doctors say to? :-/
(29 wks and 2 days pregnant)

Is it normal that when i poke the swollen areas, it leaves an indention that stays there for at least 5-10 minutes?

Also kinda dizzy, but dunno if that's relevant to swelling.

Can you have pre-elampsia if you have normal blood pressure? Or hypertension? Because as of last night i had perfect blood pressure. That's why i really don't know what to think about all this. I was told i showed signs of pre-eclampsia but i have very good blood pressure.

My midwife's advice when that happened to me was to go out and buy a watermelon. Eat half of it one day and the other half the next. Watermelon is inexpensive and harmless, so I'd say it's worth a try. But you do want to watch for the other signs of pregnancy induced hypertension, like blurred vision, and the swelling getting worse. My sister had an emergency c-section for my nephew at 29 weeks, due to severe hypertension and pre-ecclampsia, and he weighed about two pounds. He's now a healthy nine year old, but his first several months of life were not what I'm sure you have planned for your little one. I'd try the watermelon but be on the lookout for any signs of things getting worse.

I had the same problem which was pregnancy induced hypertension. It was a result of being on my feet all day. Therefore, every chance you get try to put your feet up. I would sit with my legs up against the wall to keep the swelling down.
Good news is that I haven't had a single reoccurence since delivery.
Good Luck to you.

It can be a sign of a chronic condition, but it could just be run-of-the-mill swelling, too. I was 3rd-trimester pregnant twice in the summertime, and I swelled something awful, but it was never anything serious. I put a box under my desk at work so I could put my feet up. Drinking a lot of water really does help!

some swelling in extremely normal during pregnancy, But extreme swelling is cause for concern.
You need to either move or sit down. I sit alot so during my pregnancy I made sure I got up and moved around every so often and kept my feet elevated the best I could. But if you're standing alot you need to take a break and sit for a while.

No that is not normal, you have severe swelling go see your doctor or midwife immediately and get your blood pressure checked as you could have pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure) which is very dangerous for you and the baby.
Just seen that you are dizzy too - please get to the docs asap as this is another sign of pre-eclampsia - have you any headaches or blurred vision?

You have pregnancy cankles. They'll go away after a couple of weeks following labor.
do what doc says... drink water and lay off the salt. If you massage them, massage from the ankles up through the calves. And elevate your feet.

Welcome to pregnancy in the summer time. Don't worry, put your feet up and try to lay on your left side. Drink LOTS of water. This is a great excuse to REST!
