hello, I have just set up a wirless tp link router and followed the instructions i think. I have read a lot of forum answers as to how to set it up so iam sure I have done it correctly but friends still cannot acces the connection. they recognise the network but when they double click on it microsoft sends an error message that they cannot access it, no password asked for. I tried to set the network up using microsoft "wireless network set up wizard" aswell but nothing is working. any advice?

We do not know if there is a LAN or WAN connection issue.

Whenever you configure the router use a wired connection.

I presume you have CATV cable modem or DSL connected to a router and wireless to the pcs. I am going to assume the router default gateway address is 192.168.1.1 and if not, you need to enter default gateway IP properly when you test.

On one pc, open command prompt (start - run, type in cmd and hit enter). At the prompt type "ipconfig" without quotes and hit enter. You should be getting an ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway. The ip should be in the form 192.168.1.x where x is anywhere from 2 - 255. If you get NO ip address or an IP starting with 169 you are not able to connect to the router. Go back and configure your router properly and then configure the pc wireless access point properly and check the ipconfig for a legitimate LAN IP.

Once you get a LAN IP, in command prompt, type "ping 192.168.1.1" and hit enter. You should get 4 ping responses. Now type in "ping 4.2.2.2" and hit enter. You should get 4 ping responses; if not check your router wan configs as something is wrong. You should now have internet.

Repeat the above on all units.
