If you are friendly and smiling all people are friendly and smiling to you.
I have not yet been in any country that treated me bad, nor have I seen any nice person getting a bad treatment.
But if you behave bad you can get the locals against you. Also if you go to the places that people of your country often misbehave in, (like the Spanish coastal towns where all the tourists get drunk,) you might not be welcome.

So as a single traveler, be prepared to pretend that you do not belong to the same country as that nasty group near you, smile and ask friendly, if possible in the language of the country, for help, and you get it.

I like France, Norway and England.
(I am Dutch.)

I am totally in love with Italy and France. I studied abroad in Florence, Italy my junior year in college and absolutely loved it. Florence is just the right mix of everything for me and the people were absolutely lovely. I never had a problem anywhere I went.
