its not a rare blood type, thats O Negative. yes O is a universal donor. O positive can give blood to any + (O+, A+, B+, AB+) and AB is the universal recipient.

O is the 'universal donor', though I think its O-negative which is the true universal donor. Not really rare per-se, but highly valued because it comes in handy.
O type people can only receive blood from another O.
AB is the universal acceptor.
