I have NEVER owned a cell phone, and I am totally ignorant about them. I am 57 years old and only really need one for emergency calls, not for GPS, pics, texting, Internet, etc. But as long as I have to get one, should I go for the extra gizmos anyway? ...as high as an IPhone?
I don't know a RAZR from a Blackberry from a Bluetooth, so I am lost here. I'm not wealthy, but right now money is not the biggest thing to consider.
ANY feedback from your experiences with companies, products, etc., would help. PLEASE!?

➔ Cell Phones & Plans
This is a basic $39.99 plan with the top four wireless providers.
If you pick Verizon, Sprint or at&t the basic plan of $39.99 has 450 minutes month that includes Unlimited Mobile to Mobile, Unlimited Nights and Weekends.
T-Mobile $39.99 plan is 600 minutes with Unlimited Nights and Weekends, no mobile to mobile. T-Mobile has a promo offer $39.99 1000 minutes with Unlimited Nights and Weekends, no mobile to mobile
Sprint nights start at 7pm and can start at 6pm for a fee.
at&t has Rollover minutes.
Verizon has the best network.
My opinon I think you are not going to use the phone that much and should buy a Motorola RAZR prepaid on T-Mobile.
I can get you a RAZR for $300 that will include 1000 nationwide minutes that you have a year to use.

It sounds like you should probably get a basic plan and whatever phone you can get for free - there are plenty of options now. I saw something the other day that lets you check the coverage in your area at www.point.com - and I saw a suggestion that said invite friends with different cell phone carriers over to your house and see who gets the best signal and then choose that carrier. Point.com also compares the best deals so you can see what phone you can get and pick a basic plan - you can always add more time / features if you use it, but right now, why spend a lot?
And remember, you can always dial 911 from any cell phone.

well all the new things that they put on cell phones are really cool but u might not need them if you wont use them. plus it might just cost extra money! i dont really like the RAZRs they are so thin that they can break easily if u drop it (my friends snapped in half). the iphones are soo cool but probably too expensive for just a phone that u are looking for. i really like cingular (which is now called at&t). my verizon phone runs out of battery very quickly so they arent very good. the basic texting and pics is what i recommend.

The MOST IMPORTANT - Pick the company with the best service inyour area - it it usually Verizon or Cingular. Pick the smallest plan and the free phone - you will be just fine.
Pick the type of phone you like; slider, flip, etc. I suggest slider or flip - you will not press buttons accidently.
You can always increase the plan later if you have to.
If you REALLY do not use the phone much - you migt be good with PayAsYouGo plan - you have to calculate yourself.

Get a Cingular phone!
They have high quality products, as well as good prices.
Whether you want a nokia or a razr, Cingular is the way to go!
Good luck, :)

It looks like you're looking for a prepaid solution. You could pretty much head to any provider you want to and get a prepaid phone and plan. T-Mobile and AT&T tend to be good choices.

i would highly recomend prepaid from t-mobile, boost, at&t. my grandparents all have cell phones and they are prepaid ones and they love it all they use it for is emergency calls.
if you are willing to pay a monthly fee you can go for a tmobile or at&t contract plan and get 100 minutes or so a month.
just watch out for those hidden fees :/

I would consider nokia 1100.
- very very very affordable
- simple and straightforward to use
- durable (I drop mine like twice a day and it is still in perfect condition )
- very long battery life (approx a week )
