The uncrowded end as there is more distance between the numbers. It's easier to estimate 1/4, 1/3 etc than using the side where the numbers are squeezed.

What are you talking about? The scale should be the same across the dial on each ohms range setting. If the needle goes too far, try the next highest setting. Get an auto ranging DMM if it's that important.

whose electricity are we measuring here? if you are talking metaphorically about the scale of human sexuality..I would say that no point is more reliable...we each have our own valid place.
