I'm not saying all righties do this, and yes I'm sure some lefties do this as well... but instead of addressing a political figure for his stand on the issues..they attack them at a personal level. For instance... John Edwards and his hair, Michael Moore and his weight, Al Gore and his son's issues... or even more appaling, Barack Obama and his name. Is the net average age on Y! Answers 11?

Apparently, I wasn't clear... I said it happens on both sides..but the attacks seem to be more severe and personal coming from a few on the right. I'm not saying any names... you usually can tell by the level of ignorance in their answer. Also, I didn't mean to offend anyone by calling them Right Wingers.. I usually opt for the term "righties"... I think NeoCon is not a very accurate term for every conservative... I'm moderate, but constantly get addressed as "liberal".

Bugged... what was that person's question, though? Let me guess..something like "Why do Libs support Socialism?". That's the kind of crap that goes on here 24/7. If your liberal you are called pinko, commie ,socialist ect.. it's baiting..and that's it. Read my questions, most all of them have had at least SOME substance.

And as a Democrat, I am going to give examples from my point of view. I am biased. Thanks!

Do you think that maybe we do this sort of thing out of frustration? We feel out of control and we need to lash out at someone? Children do the same sort of thing at school when they get frustrated - they just say terrible things about the teacher/prinicpal/lunch lady behind their backs...they don't know that it won't help their situation... I guess the school aged child in all of us shows up sometimes...

Speaking of Personal Attacks... Listen to American Pride (first post) he is the expert at attacking someone because of their beliefs. What a hypocrite.
If questions are asked in an objective manner, then people are usually civil and willing to give a good answer. When it is slanted one way or another, expect some flack.
I have tried both types of questions and the later is more entertaining, but the first way is much more informative.

As an Independent I have found the right wingers and left wingers both equally regress to attacking each other on a personal level............
Maybe because neither can ask or answer a question in an Intelligent manner????
I have no Idea about the average age........
I'm in my 30's

Both sides do it to each other to detract the public (this makes the general media of both sides leap for joy) from real issues. I feel that the political process has been brought down to appearances and sound bites that are used to provide media fodder for all to chew on.
Yelling, finger pointing and name calling is merely a cover for not having a viable solution that works for the PEOPLE not the politicians.

Well if I believe in liberty and you don't, what is there to debate? In the end most arguments involve opposite core beliefs, so why should I present a long-winded fact-filled dissertation on individualism when you have a core belief that the state should promote by force its view of the "collective" good?
I find it simpler, less perplexing and funnier to simply say, "Well, you're a pinko, commie f#g!"

There are plenty of personal attacks on both sides. Too many. It is entirely possible to debate any issue without vitriol and name calling. The debates can be civil. The world could well do with more civilization. I do try to be as civil as possible when answering questions. Even if they contain an immensely evil premise.

For the same reason left wingers regress to the level of personal attacks on Y! Answers. For instance... Rush Limbaugh and his weight (yes he's slimmed a bit but he used to be obese), Dick Cheney and his heart condition, Condi Rice and her race, and George Bush and his daughter's issues. It's politics, people love to bash those on the other side of the aisle. And it's one thing that people love to do whether they're conservative or liberal.

Actually, 11 is the net average IQ of right wingers.
They lose every argument, so that's all they have left - insults and personal attacks.
And of course people say Bush is dumb. He IS dumb. And that certainly has an effect on his ability to run the country.
And he really does look like a monkey.
And Coulter and Condi do look like men.
Bush is Hitler-like in many senses.
And Reagan was a bad actor and bad Governor and bad president, who refused to resign, even when he had Alzheimers.
Attacking Obama's name or religion is just plain ignorant.
Hair has never affected anyone's character or intelligence, so why they would bother picking on Edwards' hair is beyond me.
Yes, Michael Moore is fat. What about it? Plenty of fat Republicans. And Moore is more honest, talented, and intelligent than the lot of them.
Picking on Al Gore's son? They should know better. Plenty of prominent Republicans have troubled children, or have personal problems of their own.
Is neo-cons now an insult? LMAO

I, as a "Right Winger" can ask the same question of Liberals . . . Bush being called a moron, Ann Coulter being called a man, Giuliani a transvestite . . . I've personally been called a moron or ignorant or bigot. I try not to result to name calling and personal attacks, but sometimes, enough is just enough . . . I am sure that the liberals who attack me and what I believe in feel the same way... I think that most people who resort to this are either frustrated beyond belief, or just cannot argue their points any other way.

Character assassination is a time-honored tradition in politics. Movements and ideologies of all stripes resort to this tactic at some point or another. (Some movements are formed for the sole purpose of ruining reputations: the Swift Boaters are a good example.) Historically, it has worked for the most part. When one lacks ideas, one will smear his or her opponent and hopefully the feeble-minded masses will be swayed.
