if someone asked you if something looked nice,but it looked terrible would you tell them it looked nice knowing people would take the micky out of them behind there backs or say it didnt look right- i mean anybody not just family

You can behonest, but there is a way to do it so that it comes out nice. Say the person is wearing pea green and it looks horrible. They ask for you opinnion and you say " hmmm, not too bad." then pause...then say with alot of interest and a hint of enthusiasm "you know blue would look really great on you. Oh yea, it would really look good with your insert one or more.....hair, eyes, skin. Replace their bad fashion with good fashion. This works for styles too. For ex. if some one wears baggy clothes and looks frumpy, you say "hm, yea it looks nice,,,,but you have a great figure and could really pull of a shorter skirt, or a v-neck top" Never flat out say something looks bad, always offer a better alternative with positive feedback for the alternative.

I would be honest because I would expect the same. I would also make sure there was somehting positive in how I said it. Not necessarily "You look like a cow!" but more along the lines of, "The color is nice but the cut/style isn't really the best for you."

NO aways tell the truth, obviously constructive critism is best don't just tell them they look cr*p
tell them why the shape or colour doesn't suit them and try suggesting alternatives
but definitely be HONEST

I'd say it looks fine, but then suggest alternative shapes to go for in the future.
When they say "does this look okay", just leave a big pause before you say "ye-es....". Then they throw you the bone and ask what's wrong with it.

trust me, me and my friends have a truth policy, if something looks bad, they tell you, if it hurts or not
its better being told by your friends you look bad, in a nice way, than being told you look bad by others in a mean way

i just tell the truth, i dont tell them that they look horrible but i just say that they would look better in something else

If I knew them well, I would tell them the truth, but if I didn't know them that well, I would be embarassed to tell them they looked crappy.

well if it's a good friend then yes
but if it's someone that you dont like that much than who cares.
and if that were me wearing the tacky outfit.. i would want someone to tell me.. wouldnt you?
