If you view candidating from an advertising perspective these days (and I do), Fred has the right ingredients.
1. He has name and face recognition.
2. He has the same flaws as the rest of us.
3. He is open and honest about the things facing the US today.
4. He is not being endorsed by the so-called religious right.
5. The older generation of Republicans will remember him fondly, in my opinion.

Generally you can tell which person and how much that person worries the DNC, they go on attack. Today, just about the only person they are attacking is Thompson, both barrels.
That would make me believe you are correct, and I think the DNC believes that as well. Hillary is going to light a fire under the voters, one like I thing we have never seen before, and you know what happens to Dems when there is a big turnout.

He's going to have big problems. There's a good reason he doesn't want to run a traditional campaign. He and his people know the vetting process is going to hurt him. His Nixon connection will be much talked about, he was a lobbyist - a job most Americans consider as being below whale dung, he used to be pro-choice and voted pretty liberally for a Republican when he was a Senator. Now he's so far right he make McCarthy look like a liberal. I know you guys think he's the "Daddy" candidate you've all been waiting for but don't count those chickens quite yet. He's going to be slow roasted just like another candidate and he's got some explaining to do about more than one thing in his past.
Obama and Hillary only pale in contrast for the conservatives who are salivating over this actor. They're so desperate for a viable candidate right now this guy looks like gold when he's only gold plated.

First, of all he is going to have stop being so coy and actually declare that he is running for the presidency, something he has yet to do.
He'll also need to deal head on with the issue of lymphoma. While I understand he has the least dangerous form, we still need more information on the full status of his health.
His biggest challengers for the Republican nomination are Giuliani and Romney. McCain is fading rapidly as evidenced by his poor fund raising and laying off of his staff. Giuliani has not proven that he can win over social conservatives, though he proves popular with those who say he can beat Sen. Clinton, the likely nominee of the Democrats.
Thompson presents a mainstream Republican message of less government, strong war on terror, lower taxes, conservative judges, and he does so that is not so in your face--a solid strategy if one is to win over independent voters. He knows what he believes and is not likely to veer off message. I believe things will ultimately come down to him and Romney, the latter who has built an impressive organization in early campaign states. If Thompson can get by these obstacles, he may indeed be unbeatable. He could put Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison from Texas as his running mate to neutralize any gender differences.
Republicans would likely then have the first Vice-Presidential female as well as having the distinction of nominating the first woman to the Supreme Court, as they did when Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor for a seat on the high court. Democrats would once again be left scratching their heads for answers and Katie Couric could have that on-air meltdown we are all awaiting for.

I hope you are right. I agree he will carry the South, but he also needs to appeal to voters in places like Ohio, Wisconsin, and Iowa and to moderate Democrats so he can beat whomever the Democrats finally select. I'd probably vote for a yellow dog before I'd vote for Obama or Hillary, not to mention the yellow dog is the best looking of the 3. Fred Thompson is a viable candidate, and I remember another conservative actor who was twice elected president. This country needs another Ronald Reagan, in my opinion.

He is that fresh face I think American voters are looking for this election season. I do believe they won't give him too long to make progress or he will be the next man out. As for Hillary - NOPE - she is a woman, and no matter how good she looks, she SHOULD NOT BE RUNNING A COUNTRY! Why? She can't keep her husband from prowling, she won't keep the American people safe either!

His only qualification is that he had a short, undistinguished stint in the Senate, where he consistently voted in direct opposition to the positions he now claims. The vast majority of those who support his candidacy and who would vote for him are nothing more than drooling worshipers of celebrity, simply for the sake of celebrity. They would be just as likely to vote for Paris Hilton for no reason other than she's all over the media and that they consider her "hot."

he doesn't support what people want
he is just like the politians we've seen before and have recently stopped electing
he is not 'pro-law' (libby case)
he has a trophy wife and is against a woman's right to control her body
and obama doesn't pale in all aspects when it comes to voter appeal.
he won't win

He'll carry a majority of the 'Die Hard' vote.
You know, the idiots who never got past the infantile need for blowing up nature.
He's the kind of conservative whose white maleness blinds him to the racism of our society, whose ivory-tower elitism (with an ah-shucks twain) blinds him to the plight of the working poor, who won't be alive in 30 years to see the world that men like him have wrought.

I too have never seen Law and Order but am impressed with his past record as a Senator for the state of TN.
I'm seeing a lot of bad things being said about Fred from the opposition. That always tells me that someone is a threat. I believe Fred to be a very viable threat and someone who can beat the top Dem contenders. :)
