How old is my baby???!!! I have been counting his age in weeks since he was born. He will be 24 weeks old on friday. Thats 6 months old right? He was born Jan 19th. so he won't really be 6 months until the 19th. I think I have totally confused myself and my family to death! How do you count your babies age?

The confusing part is b/c there are 4.33 weeks in a month. I did the weeks until 3 months old. Then I went to months until mine were 2 yrs old.

I have the fear that I will do the same. I think it's fine to count weeks until the baby is a few months old after that just say how many months. I end up saying the baby is 9 weeks today and she was 2 months old on July 3rd (she was born May 3rd). After month 3 I am sticking to months and not weeks, unless someone asks how many weeks she is! The week thing is fine during pregnancy and the first few months of the babies birth! Good luck!

I totally know where you are coming from. You are used to counting the weeks of your pregnancy and now you are adjusting to actual age. You go by the birthdate just like you do for yourself. He will not be 6 months old until the 19th. The reason? Actual age is calculated over the course of a calendar month and fetal age is calculated over the course of a lunar month. This is why so many people think pregnancy is 9 months when in reality it is 10 months!

Weeks is the best calculator, up to 6 months I think, after that I started doing it by months, until 3 years old.

Your right, your baby will be 6 months old on the 19th.

Your baby will be 6 months old on the 19th. I used to tell people my kids ages in weeks when my kids where first born but once they got to 8 weeks i started using months. If you tell some one oh my baby is 24 weeks they think your crazy. Start using months now and use months till your baby turns 24 months and then start using years.

For just that reason, doctors and most people count babies in weeks. There are appx. 4.5 weeks in a month - not 4. February is the only month that has 4 weeks in it. So a month is considered 30 days long. So your baby is 24 weeks old, but won't be 6 months until July 19th. Does that make sense?

Congratulations BTW!!!

On July 19th he will be 6 months old. From what I've read here for answers, different doctors must use different systems. My pediatrician goes by months and has since my son was three months old (count in weeks before then).

well iu started to do weeks, but it gets really confuseing if you can tell, Dont do weeks do months, Thats better If you really want to do weeks then you can, So like you said he will be 24 weeks on Friday, It looks like he was born on a friday so each friday is one new week, However if someone asked his age and you say it in weeks they will get confused cause if they are like me I will have to stop and figure it all out.haha. With my 3 month old she was born Apr 3rd so i will say just over 3 months, they wont question the exact amount, and closer i will say 3 1/2 months then 4 months!!

I always thought that week counting was stupid.
If he was born Jan 19th, then he is six onths old on June 19th. I can only see counting weeks if under a month old. Any week counting after that just seems dumb. Why not just say, my child is three months or just under two months...or whatever?

I don't like, and never did like, when people counted by weeks, it is just confusing. Go by the date your baby was born, and then on that day of the next month, count it as a month. The week crap is ridiculous. So, on the 19th of every month, he is a month older. Forget the lame as week crap.

yeah i was really confused as well and had to ask the same question. they say up to 3 months you go by weeks and from then on you go by months from the date he was born, so he'll be 6 months on the 19th. hope that helps. i still keep track of the weeks in his diary though.
