Most chronic homeless have mental illnesses. Should they be committed? Possibly, if indeed they have a mental illness that warrants it.

Should they be put down? Sure. We'll make YOU the person who decides who lives and who dies. You OK with that? No?

What makes you think anybody else would be.......or should be?

Perhaps we should then move to rid ourselves of the retarded and then those who are physically unable to contribute to society and are also a drain on our resources. Hey, what about the elderly who suck the country dry in their medicare funded retirement homes?

Where oh where to draw the line?

How many homeless men or women have you met? How many have you spoken to? When you say "put down", you mean killed. Who-pray tell-will do the judging? Which homeless man or woman is such a threat to the world that they need to be eliminated? Have you ever heard of Adolph Hitler? Each and every homeless person-and that includes children have their own story. They're individuals. When you have spent a reasonable amount of time talking to the homeless and perhaps actually trying to help them, come back and tell me which ones you would kill.

When we were in a more gentile society in the US we often confined people with limited abilities due to mental instability to institutions. The courts said there was no cause for people who were not a general threat to themselves or others to be institutionalized. That set in motion a whole Diaspora of the homeless placed into a world where there was no system to address their needs. Without universal health care and community support this unfortunate condition will only increase.

While I think everyone agrees, it would be great if homelessness didn't exist in our society - I don't think this is the answer. There are many reasons a person can be homeless: escaping abusive homes, mental illness, addiction, job loss, etc.

We must address the cause (living wages, accessible healthcare, cost of living...), not the symptom (homelessness).

Well, gosh, let me see. That's a toughy. I'm not too fond of democrats, I wonder if we should just put them down. That would sure be cheaper than committing them. On the other hand, we could send them all to Tibet to Free Tibet since they all seem to want that.

Did you know that many homeless people are mentally ill and the Government stopped funding the hospitals they were in and literally threw them out on the streets? This is sad and something serious and constructive should be done about it.

The poorest of poor help people who need help. Can’t you do at least that much?

You definitely cannot "put someone down." That's just not an option. As to trying to provide health services, I think of course we should do something, although I'm not sure what.

Be glad that your not them, we all have failings. You have what seems as a cold heart, try a little milk of human kindness in your coffee.
