Nope, your computer should recognize the drive and install any drivers need. You'll only need software if you get a DVD burner and want to burn DVD's.

So long as your system meets the minimum requirements for the game you should be fine. Apparently you have not reviewed this list as it would have clearly stated that a DVD ROM was required. Better check your system out against the min requirements b4 you open the packaging and cant return it for a refund.
If you meet all other requirements then the external DVD ROM would solve everything. Why not get an internal? They are cheaper.

just buy an internal dvd drive and/or replace the cd drive ( according to how much space you have ). Or an external one would be fine, you wouldnt have to modify any thing for the drive providing that you allready have the components needed for an external one.

Have you tried getting your computer to read the disk already? If you really need to get the external DVD drive, just choose one that's labeled Plug and Play -- you'll have very little, if anything at all, to do in order to use it.

No, the only thing you will need is the drive you buy (internal or external) and the software supplied with it that allows you to use the drive. After that, you won't need anything else. Hope this helps.

no. an external DVD rom should come with everything you need to use it, so unless the game is in some odd format, it should work fine.

You will need a DVD player; it can be either an internal or external unit. They come with the needed drivers to make them function.

That depends. If your PC is completely compatible as-is with the external DVD drive then you are good to go.

it should plug and play. however i wouldnt recommend an external drive for gaming. it wont be very fast and it will probably be more expensive.

thats a great place to get a good internal drive. it would be easy to install(basically hook it up just how the old drive was.)
