A bare majority of votes in the legislature, whose purposes can be frustrated by a Presidential veto or a minority filibuster, is not as much "control" as you think.

I'm sorry, I really must have missed something. Just out of curiosity, where are the 300 million voices coming from? I'm assuming it's your head because that's absurd. I don't attest to being a democrat or republican any longer. Republicans have abandoned the basic tenants of their party. And the democrats...? get real. My 8 month old puppy has better ideas in his sleep. Dude, stop listening to the CNN/ABC news polls...they tend to be just a bit slanted.

So...by your rational, we should continue to alienate 50% the population while never answering the needs of our country. Great solution.

You want change? Maybe it's time for our nation to start coming together on something other than bashing George Bush...

The Democrats want a Democrat to be president so that their legislation doesn't get vetoed. And so they can veto any Republican legislation that might get passed. And so they can make the Supreme Court appointments. And so they can decide the military policies. etc.
