Including Spring training and the post season MLB players play very close to if not over 200 baseball games a year.
They have the shortest off season off any sport.
They get paid that much because they can bring in that much.
One hand washes the other.

LMAO! Do you realize that there is only 15 minutes of action in a NFL football game? The rest of the time they are in a huddle, swapping players, killing the clock...etc! So this argument could be made for them more then baseball! Do QB's throw the ball a 100 times a game? NO! Each play last at the longest 8 seconds! In baseball there is far more action. Just because the players in the field are not running every pitch doesn't mean they aren't ready for the ball to come to them and thinking about what they have to do with it depending on the situation. People find baseball boring because it is a thinking sport more then the other major sport. The other sports are more reactive. In baseball the situation changes with every pitch. For instance when I played the outfield and I saw the pitcher was going to throw a off speed pitch and depending on the hitter I might start shading over because he will get around on it quicker then if the guy is throwing gas! Then if the ball is hit to me it depends on guys on base and how deep the ball is and that takes a split second decision on where you are going with the ball. So there is a lot more to baseball then most give it credit for. Oh and let me add something else baseball plays 162 game regular season where as footbal is 16 games! And as most everyone know the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a round bat against a round ball coming in a different speeds, angles and with movement! That is why you can make an out 7 out of 10 times and still make the Hall of Fame. If you only complete 30% of your passes or make only 3 out of 10 field goals or drop 7 out of 10 passes you will not be playing football long! As for salaries all the athletes in the major sports are over paid!

Well first of all you can't get mad at MLB for paying their stars well. The NFL should be ashamed of how they take advantage of their players. Football players should make a lot more, I agree. But don't say they're any more talented than MLB guys. If they could choose, most would rather play baseball. Ask Jeff Samardzija and Drew Henson. It's not very relevant to the discussion but since you brought it up, football has a ton of guys that are there simply because they're huge. They add nothing else, and aren't close to someone you'd consider an "athlete" if you saw them in street clothes at a Walmart.
And: No, I don't think they make too much; they make too little. They do something that nobody else in the world can do, and they generate tons of dollars for doing it. The owners don't do enough to earn their checks. For the most part, all they are is rich guys who bought the team with some money handed down to them from former bootleggers and slave-owners. They refuse to spend their own money when they build parks or pay their athletes. They decide how much the ticket prices are, food at the games are, etc, and they're never held accountable.

Actually, I think you've got it backwards. Football players actually do very little to make their money. I mean think about it. They only run for 10-15 seconds at a time, take a minute break, and then do it again. Then they're only on the field half of the time. Not to mention the grueling 16 games that they have to play. Baseball players, while not running constantly, are standing out in an open field in 95+ degree heat for most of the summer (depending on where they play). And they play nearly every single day. 162 games is a lot to play in the heat of the summer. Not to mention that hitting a fastball is one of the most difficult things to do in all of sports. These guys earn their money. The only baseball players that I would agree that do very little is the starting pitchers. they only have to play once every 5-6 days, and depending on how good they pitch, may last 2-3 innings if they pitch badly. 3 innings twice a week isnt earning money. but again i disagree with your example. just seems silly to me to pay someone 10 million bucks a year to play 16 games per year, especially when they only play half of the time anyway.

I think if you weigh the fact that a very small percent of the population can play baseball at that level, no. Keep in mind that the owners decide what to pay, not the ballplayers. The bottom line is that baseball is a money making machine, particularly when you see the amount the networks pay for broadcast rights.

In baseball you can fail 7 out of 10 times and still be a superstar, hell even a hall of famer. Hitting is THE hardest thing to do in sports. With the exception of the DH/Pitcher in the AL players have to not only be able to bat but be able to play their position very well. Football players are only Offensive, Defensive and some are only on special teams, even then they run a play wait 30 seconds run a play wait 30 seconds over and over again. It is simply 1 game a week vs 162 games a year in baseball.

A boxer can make $20 million and more for one fight, and basketball players make just as much, or more than baseball players. Some movie stars make $30 million a movie. Can't we agree that entertainment is a big business and those with the talent to do that can make a lot of money. Baseball players are compensated at their market value as determined by the owner of the club or his representative. Who are we to enter into the mix and give our opinion as to how they should be compensated? As long as these players play hard and do everything within their power to help their team win, we are getting our monies worth.

yes they do make a lot of money but look at the money the make the owners of the team but at the same time if salaries were not so high ticket prices would go way down too so it is hard to say do you let the owners make even more than they already do or pay the players a good portion of the money that they are making for someone else

Glad to see you know so much about baseball. I've been watching for a few decades and thought it was very interesting to watch the little things that go on during a game, but now you've made me realize how foolish that was. I'll just turn off my TV now and go to sleep.

It's the old quantity verses demand. There are very few talented baseball players. Therefore their value goes out of sight. They may be over paid, but we fans fill the seats to help pay them. Right?? Right!!
Chow!!
