I am asking this question, for some friends of mine who would like to switch to a different game. They have already played the old game "Runescape" and "World of Warcraft". They would like a new game, specifically that would be "good" if they like spell-casting, such as Magic and stuff.

You might want to check out Guild Wars. There are 10 professions in the game if you own all 3 campaigns. (6-8 if you don't).
Warriors - Your standard garden variety sword/axe/hammer swinger.
Monks - Your standard garden variety healer
Necromancers - Spell casters. Curses and Hexes and Zombies, Oh My!
Elementalists - Powerful spell casters using the elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire
Rangers - Bow and Arrows, trappers, pet tiger.
Mesmers - Spell Casters. Good at messing up the strategies of others.
Assassins - Fast, swift killers. Uses daggers.
Ritualists - Uses spirits to heal or cause damage.
Paragon - Command figure. Hurls spears, uses commands and shouts to buff up other party members.
Dervish - Uses a scythe to cause massive damage. Based on using enchantments to keep up damage and health.

Best of all, no monthly fee.
