If your car is at least a few years old, you should have no problems finding these at junkyards. Fitting is a simple matter of undoing a panel, unscrewing a few screws, unplug old ECU, plug in new ECU... done in 30mins max.

u cant just bolt on one from a scrapyard it needs to be programmed to your car. use a mail order company and send them your old one for repair, for an extra 30 quid or so they will also test ur old one and give u a report on it so u know u r changing the right part, it will cost a few hundred pounds to repair, buy a magazine like "car mechanics" and have a look in the back at the ads.

If this is infact the ECU unit, then you will need to make sure you get exatly what you need. Check the Bimmerforums.com for sale area. Make sure you know the year(perhaps build month), the car model, and whether you have EWSII or not. If any of these don't match up it may not work for you.
